Shelburne Circus
The coming of the circus was a greatly anticipated event in the cities of 19th century America. Colorful posters appeared on barns and fences, announcing dates and revealing new performers. Finally, the day arrived! Elephants and clowns paraded through town and the big-top tent was raised. The Shelburne Museum has collected many of these bright-colored, attention-getting posters advertising dramatic acts, exotic animals and outrageous claims - all designed to sell tickets. The Shelburne Museum also has 2 miniature circuses elaborately, painstakingly carved out to replicate the circus parade and the three-ring circus. Windham Fabrics has used motifs from this combination to inspire a unique circus collection for quilting. The three-ring circus, the animals, the posters are all here, just waiting to be implemented into your quilt along with all those old memories...of the Circus!
